August 28th, 2010meg is a good friend from high school and college who grew up around weddings. her talented mother, sally jones, is a wedding coordinator in dallas who has been in business for decades and i have been lucky to attend many of her fabulous events. meg had one piece of advice for me before my wedding (okay maybe more than one, but this one stuck in my mind). she told me to get a new perfume for my wedding, use it on my wedding day and my honeymoon and then put it away and only pull it out on special occasions like anniversaries. that way it would always remind me of my wedding day and be a great sensory memory.
well of course being the scatterbrain that i am, i completely forgot to heed her advice in advance but have since heard her share this same idea with others and wished that i had paid more attention at the time.
today i took a quick shower and jumped out on my way to meet up with a bride and realized i was out of my regular hair product. a quick trip below the sink yielded a random old bottle of curl enhancer from a brand i don’t remember ever buying, but i pulled it out and the minute the smell hit my nose i remembered… i bought this when i had my hair done for my wedding. they didnt carry my usual brand but i was so pleased with how my curls turned out that day, i bought the product.
so its not a fancy bottle of perfume, but i’ve been walking around all day with random whiffs of my wedding day in the air making me smile.

August 27th, 2010oh how quickly my month hiatus has passed. time flies when you’re having fun… or relaxing with your family! now that the heat has broken (hey, at least its not triple digits!) i can actually wrap my mind around the idea of shooting outside in texas again!
i am officially booking for april 2011 weddings and beyond. i will begin booking portraits in the new year, but feel free to contact me if you would like to be added to the wait list of clients who want to be notified by email when my calendar opens up.
september starts up gangbusters with two weddings and some fun portrait sessions all in the first week or two. this fall is going to be a whirlwind, stick around for a busy busy blog and lots of gorgeous clients!

August 26th, 2010i want to share a great new fundraising event in austin that i am excited to be a part of this year. i have been so lucky to shoot for a lovely client turned friend whose lovely daughter has Rett Syndrome. i am happy to not only be a corporate sponsor for the strollathon, but i will be in attendance taking lots & lots of pictures to document the event!
i feel like these days on the internet you don’t have to search long to find a sad story that touches your heart or brings you to tears but when i heard from my client of her daughter’s diagnosis, it truly knocked me down. i can’t say what it is that made me feel so connected to their trial, but i cried about it. a lot. i felt a bit silly honestly because i couldn’t explain why it was affecting me on such a personal level- yes i love my clients. yes i have loved documenting her life since she was just a baby, but it was somehow more than that. knowing there is only so much i can do to support them, i just jumped at the chance to get involved with this event and i’d be honored if any of you would join us.

(details and pics below!) i thought i’d take a second to answer a few of the common questions i get over email and in-person when i meet with my brides.
will a second photographer shoot my wedding with you?
YES! all of my wedding packages include second shooters. i use talented, fun, reliable photographers. trust me, if you pick ME to spend your wedding day with you, you’ll enjoy the fun people that i hire to second for me 
do the packages include the digital negatives?
again, YES! the images that i take are a documentary of your wedding day, they tell a story as a whole and i want you to have them all!
can we post your images online and on facebook?
of course! in the end, the images are yours and i love love to see my couples sharing their images with friends and family online.
do you give discounts for friday or sunday weddings?
sorry, i don’t! i take a limited number of weddings and portraits each month and i put the same effort and energy into your wedding no matter what day of the week you get hitched!
do you offer customized packages if my wedding doesn’t perfectly fit your offerings?
sure thing- send me a note and let’s talk! we can put together the right package for your big day, the packages are just there to give you a general idea of what i offer.

do you ever wear high heels to weddings like jasmine star does?
i’ll give that one a big fat ‘no freaking way’. i’ll be dressed nicely enough to be mistaken for a wedding guest, but my shoes will be 100% practical

August 21st, 2010tonight was payback time. in a good way as many of you know, my lovely friend bonnie berry is consistently going out of her way to document my family from birthday parties to everyday life, we are so lucky to have her sharing such a gift with us.
we were happy to be in on a surprise birthday party for her other half tonight and i was soo glad to repay the favor by bringing along my camera. it was a chill evening at their home with such great friends of their family. josh was genuinely surprised (we caught him shirtless, i’m sure he LOVES being on the blog topless). just a few of the moments captured tonight…

let this be an inspiration to all of you sitting around with digital images on disc without anything tangible to thumb through and hold. looking at pictures on a computer just can’t compare to cuddling up in bed and looking through the past year of our life together!

August 15th, 2010my sweet sweet eve. at 16 months old she continues to be the cuddle bug of my dreams and has developed an endearing stubborn side. i’m so so lucky to have these amazing girls in my care every day and i am really enjoying a bit of time at home to just focus on my family. what a gift!
